my two nephews are 15 and 13 my brother doesnt show much interest in waterfowling but i do

well heres the question they live some 200 miles from me and have some terific goose land last year i went up there and took them on a hunt on one of there fields we shot our limit in 45 minutes

they bought dekes two sbe2 s calls and blinds but in nebraska you can't legaly hunt alone till you are 16 years of age and cannot hunt with someone under sixteen unless you are over 18 or 21 i cant remember

what should i tell them i would sure hate for them to disobey the law and get into trouble, but i dont want to have to tell them they can't hunt

they both passed hunter saftey
my brother hunts deer and occasionally pheasant with them

what are your opinions

THANK YOU

A neighbor? Maybe your brother will go anyway, he already hunts and they are his kids. I took my sons deer hunting and I'm not real interested in it anymore. Or on long weekends you could take them.

Would depend on the state. PA was loss of hunting priveleges and a fine for the parents when I was growing up (1960's). Maybe even child endangerment today and a weapons charge. It's not worth it, and remember you're teaching ethics here, too.

Thats great that the kids want to hunt.
Call your brother and beg him to at least act interested and take them out. They won't be kids for long, and, think about all the crap out there that they could be into.
Really, we are only talking a few hunts for him. It's a big deal for those boys.

You can always go up and visit a few times during goose season. Is there a possesion limit up there? Here in TN you can only have twice the bag limit at your house. Once you have two limits you have to eat some then you can go again. Maybe you could go up for a couple days or something. It's definatly not worth getting in trouble with the law about it. As rmh said, it's not just hunting you're teaching it's ethics. I had to wait until I hit 16 to go deer hunting because my dad hates it. He doesn't like to sit on stand and freeze his gonads off only to not shoot anything. Eventually I got him to go with me when I hit 18. It might be the same with your nephews too. Just tell them to pester the heck out of their dad until he says yes. He can't say no forever.

The way i see it is that as long as they are not on public land you should be fine. My friends and i took a pretty big risk this last season because i was the only one that could hunt legally, but we all still did, and we were on public land.
Also, as long as you dont do anything illegal(besides being underaged) the DNR would have to be a real prick to bust 2 kids. And the DNR here in Michigan will almost never go onto private property without a reason.

Here is a Nebraska based hunting site.... http://www.huntingne.com/
I am sure if you post up there you will find willing people to take them hunting; either on their land or the kids land or more than likely both.
I would have the people come meet with the Dad so he feels safe letting his kids hunt with someone. It might even be best if the Dad would at least go a time or two to start with just to make sure they will be alright. There are some real good guys on the site.

Ditto

With as much money as they spent on gear, they should just hire a guide to take them. Sounds like money aint the problem. Maybe the local DU or Delta guys can help out. Just ask them.

I'm not into breaking the law either but...I've sat on a deer stand by myself since I passed the hunter safety course...I think I was 12 or 13. And I had a bunch of friends/cousins growing up that hunted and our moms or dads would drop us off in the field every day over Christmas break to go hunt something. I'm not saying...but I'm just saying.
