I have a couple of questions that somebody might be able to answer.

I am rewiring my boat, i am going go ahead and run wires for a spotlight at the front of the boat to add on later. My question is will 16 gauge wire be heavy enough for this?

Also the boat I bought came with a quick set blind, the guy before me attached the blind to the boat by means of 1/4 bolts screwed into what appears to be 1/4 threaded rivets, does anyone know what these are called and where I can get them at and the tool that I am sure is needed to install these? I have never seen them before and I think I could use them for many other things on the boat.

Thanks guys I know someone can answer these for me.

It really depends on how far the run is, but in all likelihood 16 will be fine. Make sure you put an inline fuse in or run it to a fused panel.

As for the "threaded rivets" it sounds like you are describing a threaded insert or possibly a barrel nut, do a search at McMaster Carr for both and see if you can id what you have.

Theyre called rivnuts. There are 2 types. rivet in and compress with the bolt. Rivet in are nice but the rivnut gun is outrageously expensive.

16 awg will probably be fine, as long as both lights are parallel in circuit and draw less than 22 amp.

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can get the rivnuts at? I assume that I will end up using the compress type if the gun is expensive.

Also what light or lights do you suggest that I go with when I am ready to install the front lights?

Thanks
