Hey guys I'm am coming out to hunt the rainwater basin this October, staying near Ayr. I was wondering if you might be able to lend a little info to the hunting areas. Not looking for anyone's honey hole but any info would be helpful; typical blind setups (do i need a marsh chair?), kayak or no kayak? mixed bag of puddler decoys?

Honestly anything you wish you knew ahead of time after hunting the area.

Thanks in advance. Pete

I can't help you much. We hunt the basin but we are about 30 miles east of where you are going to be. The Nebraska Game and Parks website has some information on all the public hunting in the state. Good luck to you. You going to be hunting alone? If I'm able to get that way I can do some scouting for you.

There's a group of us heading up for the zone III & upland openers the end of next month. Will be based out of Holdrege so if that time period overlaps yours drop a PM. From what I have been able to ascertain, fossil fuel powered marine engines are no longer allowed on the WDU/WPA's with electric motors or paddle only. Funk marsh apparently underwent substantial renovations and the USFWS even moved their office complex out there. A couple of us are going up a few days early to recon the area between York and Holdrege. I also understand most all of the areas are at or above full water level. Good luck on your trip.
