I guess thats an otter but their is no way an otter could pull up a totaug,What kind of fish is that...Great pics again Brian

What shutter speed do you use for pics like that..?
yes..great pics... that looks to me to be some kind of a grouper maybe or a snapper of some kind..

That reminds me of a pet otter. The the guy in the camp next to my cousin's camp...his wife got a permit from the louisiana WL&F's to keep the otter from a pup-they found it stranded with the mother dead...she would clap her hands and say "go get a fish..." and that little dude would run and do a figure 8 around your legs and get all excited..then would dive off the camp dock ...a little while later, he would pop up with a fish in his mouth...didn't know what he would come up with though...catish, bream, bass, crappie, mullet, crab, gar, freshwater drum, eel...she would take the fish and get him all excited for him to go and get another one...and he'd do it for a little while till he was tired...she would keep the good eatin fish, and give the otter the heads..they like eating the heads first. Very cool to watch indeed....this was a long time ago when I first started hunting..

It would be cool if it were an otter, but that's a MINK with a tautog and therefore, that's AMAZING!
Incredible to get those pictures.
holy crap! how did I miss that one?? That IS amazing!! a mink!! So what kinda fish is a tautog anyways?? what species is it?

Maybe that little dude had some help -like the fish got caught by a fisherman and had swallowed a hook...fish is thrown back but floats on the surface thrashing....he's gonna die anyways and the mink decides it's dinner!!

The guy that needs a team to hunt chimes in again.I have never seen an otter or a mink so it was a guess.I have caught plenty of blackfish,And I would be willing to bet my boat is worth more than your house little boy.

Pound for pound its a very tuff fish Inda.Prised for both its fight and table fare. Some guys refer to them as bulldogs.

But what species is it? is it a type of grouper, or is it in the same family as a sheepshead?

yea I just read your post and assumed it was in fact an otter...didn't scroll up to look closely....we have plenty of both down here in louisiana...matter of fact, at the mouth of the mississippi river outta venice, if you look on google earth at head of passes-the pass headin out all the way to the right is Pass a loutre...or "Otter Pass"...
We were teal hunting about 10 years ago and a pair of 'em swim out and start playing with our downed birds...throwing them up in the air, laying on their backs and kicking them like 10 feet up with their hind legs... we had to immediately go and pick up the downed birds that had floated against the grass.... we had to use the pirouge to cross a deep channel, they made off with 1 of them though.....
They are fun creatures to watch in the water....
