I got a Ringed Neck today? I thought at first it was a golden eye but the bill was throwing me off. I looked closer into it and it was a male ring necked duck.... Has anyone ever shot one? It sounds like they are rare in this part of town. They usually use the Mississippi Flyway and on over to the Atlantic.........

Does it taste any good?

Ya, wat he said if I was to shoot one of them around here I wouldn't be skinning him any time soon I would be sending him to the taxidermist as soon as possible.

I saw some last week on the river. Have shot a few here, but I we shot about 30-40 last year down in northern utah. Good looking duck though.

Yeah their not that rare I did some more searching on them. Their is not a ton here lets put it that way. In other words also they are kinda hard to hit. They are very strong and fast and are one of the only ducks that can be in almost full flight the second they leave the water unlike mallards and what not.

Yeah they are a cool looking bird. My Grandpa showed up right before I got him with his dog. I didn't know but I guess his dog sam likes to maul the damn birds. He will fetch but sometimes have his way with the bird. He pretty much had too pry his jaws open and he chomped down quite a few times. He is a good trainer but could never break that habit. He is getting old hes 12 so he probable is getting ready to retire. I wasn't too happy about it. At the same time the bird fell at my feet dead as door nail... Oh well.....

How much is a taxidermist for a few birds roughly? Anyone know?
