I won a Mondo LT which wasn't even on my radar and plan on trading it for either the Short Barrel or Mezzo. Can anyone who has blown both of these give me a comparison or your thoughts. I appreciate it!

I have used Short Barrels for years and I picked up a Mezzo last year. Mezzo is a softer call (medium volume) with more whine than a SB. SB are great and very versatile but don't excel at any one thing (loud or raspy or aggressive), although they can get soft. Personally I prefer the sound of the Mezzo over the SB, but the Mezzo is missing the volume of other calls. Last year RNT released the Short Barrel Extreme (SBX) that is a louder, raspier, more aggressive SB. Best I can describe it as a whiney Daisy Cutter. Recently I added a SBX-G (SBX with spit grooves on the tone board) to the lanyard and I've been very happy with it and the Mezzo as complimentary calls.

The old Short Barrels were simply cleaner DCs. So much so that when they cleaned up the DC, to make it less troublesome, they mutted the SB: presumably to maintain readily appreciable differentiation between the two. Liked the early ones and hated the nutted version.

But I've no experience at all with where the SB now stands, much less whatever the Messo is, so I'm just posting to kill time. That and, and given the above post, to wonder aloud, if the "new" SBX isn't just an old SB?

I have a few of the early SB and they are as loud as any Cutter I've run but they lack the rasp. The SBX has the big volume with some rasp added back. However the tone isn't as deep as a Daisy Cutter; SBX has more whine to it.
