Hello, new to this board. I am looking to come to southern SK for a duck/goose trip around October of next year. I'm going to freelance and am not looking for a particular spot just a general area that is all around good hospitality, nice place to stay, decent hunting. I will bringing a group of 4, will mostly be looking at field/ puddle hunting. I will be bringing an enclosed trailer with everything I think I could encounter. I will also be bringing a really well trained retriever and would love for someone with experience or a local to join? I understand how to cross the border and how to scout, just wanting the does and donts. My buddies and myself are very serious hunters that understand how it is in waterfowling, we run property in Indiana with success so we figure a decent day up there is most likely better then a good day here. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you

Scouting and knocking on doors. Most land owners we have incounter have been very nice, inviting us into their homes, chatting, recommend other places to scout and people to talk to. It's not too different than hunting in the states as far as the actual hunting goes. I know you said you comfortable crossing the boarder but that's where most of my advice will come from.
1. You can print off the forms for your guns online and have them filled out, it helps speed up the process.
2. Have your dogs shot records, they don't automatically ask for them but they may.
3. We individually bag and label each bird, it's wasteful and bit more expensive but we have had our birds gone through at the boarder and the thanked us up and down for doing this and told us about how most guys show up with a block of frozen birds and they will make you wait until they thaw enough to get them apart so they can sort them and do counts.
4. Lastly if you're not familiar with cranes, watch your dog and yourself around them cripple will often fight back and will go strait for your eyes. It's not as common with people but I have heard many dogs getting hurt or losing eyes from wounded cranes.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping to come up and field hunt? I have a mud boat as well, I've been really researching the Shoal Lake, MB area and Arcola, SK areas they seem to have lots of options but I'm honestly just basing it purely off aerial images and articles. They are also both within a day drive of my home in southern Indiana. I'm looking forward to just the experience if nothing else. I love to chase birds but it's gotten a little crazy with the amount of hunters in our area chasing the same few birds.
