any one that has one of these motors ever fabricate a new single handle? the big hoop one is nice to turn with but sticks way to far out in the boat and takes up to much room. was thinking about rigging something up.
so tell me as I am off to Marble Rock to get one, same set up you have 14' john and am going with 13hp does it start hard and is it a pain in _ss to start, complaints I read you have to turn motor sharp to start?
I am like you the money is tight and this is what I can handle. I have herd its allot better drive and no vibration compaired to others. So please point out pros and cons.
yes with the scavenger the motors is backwards with the pullies and belt facing u. u have to turn the motor 3/4 of the way around to reach the pull start. mine starts usually on one pull but the prob is there is no neutral so u have to make sure u have the prop out of the water or u can go into a spin. its not a bad motor by any means. does what i need it and goes through anything i ask it to. Dont do what i did make sure u spend the little extra money and have electric start even if ur money is tight. i thought i could get by with pull starting and its to big of a pain to deal with. im getting a electric start kit installed on it this spring. the handle takes up to much room on my 14ft boat so im either shortening the hoop on the handle or making one single straight handle like on a go devil. any other ? feel free to ask or email me.
