Never started my own topic here but been around for almost a year or so. Will try to not get everyone panties in a bunch by asking for spots or anything. Well anyhow I got drawn for Joice on the 16th, never been there myself nor has my buddy I'm goin with. Basically I only have old memories of what my dad said about his hunt there a few years back, but was hoping to scout it this weekend. As I'm sure you all know the area is past a bridge off grizzly island road, my question is where can I go to get a decent look at the area with some binoculars and if I go up there this sunday could I cross that bridge and look from the parking lot or is that a big nono? I looked on google earth at the area, sadly looks like summer pictures so the area appears dry. Last thing I want to be is the guy bumbling around in the dark, so trying to get my ducks in a row so to speak. Thanks :)

Well im not tryn to be negative here but.............Joice is one of those places that you pretty much chalk up your first ressie to a learning experience, pack light, pack a lunch and plan on spending the entire day learning so when you get drawn again in 5-10 years you have your knowledge of the layout. Also the best advice i can give you is be mobile, if your in an area and your not getting action watch to see where they are working and not getting shot at and get there quick. You do not need alot of gear to be successful there its all about the x. Also there are a few areas where the water is chest wader deep and the tules are floating on peat and it is extremely unpredictable walking. As far as scouting im pretty sure it is closed on non shoot days and i dont think you can see much from the road. It is a learn as you go and your time is limited so learn and adjust fast.

Paths that look well walked leading off main road are not always from hunters. Lots of pig trails. Be prepared for that. If you come across some in the tules before light, it can get your heart racing a bit if you don't know what's making all the racket. :grooving:

Yea kinda figured it would be a learning experience, hate it with how hard it is to get drawn, but if it shoots like it did on the 2nd I think we'll learn our fair share. So a scouting trip is kindof a wash you guys think? Might hit up grizzly and talk to people coming out. Thanks for the quick replies.
