It depends on age....
Just don't wear the dog out (mentaly) always leave him wanting more.... if that means you can do just one then do just one... If it means you can do 5 sessions a day before he gets tired of it or board than do 4. Every dog is different.

So, you're teaching "Hold", and that would be prudently done at around 6 months of age or older. Is this the case?

If it is, 1-2 sessions about 5 to 10 minutes in length each is usually adequate.
