I see theres tons of little duck boats for sale in our area. Always wanted to try one but I always thought id never be able to use it in the places I usually hunt. They seem pretty dangerous taking them out on champlain. It also seems that you would need a buddy to have one also, I don't know about everyone else but I'm not a fan of hunting by myself. Obviously all these reason are why I don't have one. I still am curious to try one or see from others what they are like. Can anyone shed some light here?
They are fun as hell to hunt out of. The MoMarsh I'm selling is a killer... you have to think about how you setup your spread though, on numerous occasions I used this in the middle of the swamp, no cover... and had decoy set all around me. Every time I setup like this birds would decoy so close you couldn't shoot. So remember to offset the boat from the spread.
When in weeds you are completely invisible. Open water is fairly safe as long as you stay in the protected coves... if doing open water on the big lake, be sure you have a tender.
One downside is it's easy to take naps... and it can be cold in the late season.
The only reason I'm selling mine is because I just bought a new hot rod... can't justify having a truck, an M3, a 21ft seaark and the layout boat. Plus, I'm going to spend some more time deer hunting, so the mid season hunts are going to slow down a bit.
You should really give it a try... makes the mid season hunting more successful in my opinion.
