Was very fortunate to have gotten one for free since they're kind of rare and was wondering what people's experience here have been with them. The one I got is trained for rabbit/fox hunting and was wondering if its going to be a major challenge to learn how to use it in the field.

Devil, sure that ain't a big beagle or foxhound? Never seen a harrier here nor heard of anybody working them. What's the history of this particular dog?--do you actually have foxhunting in Tejas? Was it imported? AKC- or UKC-registered? I would think working it on javelinas, jackrabbits or even jackelopes :wink: but remember: it's a hound, which means it's going to be self-employed when it comes to working afield.

Its AKC registered. I thought it might be a big beagle but the owners actually have about 6 they run small game with. I know how rare they are; never even seen one before. Is this dog less command involved than a lab, meaning in the field hunting I can pretty much let it do it's thing? Previous owner said it can hunt rabbits as well as foxes.
