What kind of speed could one expect from a 1750 beavertail boat with a 27hp longtail motor. I spend alot of time on rivers running 5-15 miles each way so speed is somewhat important to me.

How do these boat/motors handle heavey loads?

I think you will be real disappointed in speeds on that boat with that LT motor. Running that far will not be fun with a LT motor on a river. I have been running MMs here in MT for the past 5 years and started with a MB 35 and have now converted it all the way to a 5000 and I still feel the need for more power. You have to account for the loss in HP due to the altitude out here(4-5HP) is what MB told me when I first got my motor. I would wait for a bigger motor and look at a Surface drive if I were you. I'm not sure which river you are running but I have never needed the added mud capability of a LT and the ease of a SD motor especially on a river is really nice.

I would have to say if your already thinking about speed with a Longtail then you have answerd your question alredy.I have a Lowe 1960 with a 27 MB LT and its anything but fast.Throw in a few guys, gear, dog and watch it come to a crawl.I"ll be selling mine and getting at least a 35 SD this off season.

15mph tops i would think.... wrong motor if you want to go fast. With a load that boat will be a pig big time. What reason do you want to get a small HP motor for and why a long tail? If you do a lot of long rides on rivers a 35 or 36hp surface drive would be a LOT less work. Yes the long tail can reach back and help un stuck you but that hull is a .100 thickness hull no? not the best for beating off rocks so you should not be whacking into things that far from home.

Your hull with a 36hp prodrive would do around 27mph with a couple guys and no gear. over 20mph with a load should be ok...

We offer a whole line of performance parts and services to increase the performance of any MM engine.

With that size boat, you can easily get to 30 MPH. We offer carbs, exhaust, cams etc. You will see huge gains in the load carrying capabilty/bottom end performance for not a lot of money. Good thing about those upgrades is that they are permanent. Once you do the work, the parts do not wear out.

If you have any questions, PM here or call the shop at 863-858-3338. We work on every type of engine.

Thanks

phutch, you should take a run in troutslayer's boat. It has a stock 35 hp short tail mud motor. This would give you a good idea of what to expect.

Jets are great if all you are dealing with are shallow rocky rivers, i.e., gravel bars. Throw in heavy vegetation, mud or the kind of slush ice that you guys can get in MT and it can be a challenge for a jet. You probably already know that.

More and more guys are going to short tail mud motors in MT. Here in the Idaho panhandle, the conversion has been even more pronounced.

I would not use these guys for anything . I ordered a muffler and a carb and its been over a month and I still have nothing although they have allready been paid for the parts. All I get is the run around as to why the order hasn"t been shipped .
Stay away not good to work with........They won't return your calls or emails.
