Hey guys, a friend of mine, who no longer loads, gave me aprx 10 lbs of DuPont SR7625 powder. I know this stuff is old, it is in its original container(a 12 lb metal keg) with the original label. The label, in part, reads DuPont SR7625 Lot # P790C31B 13221,
EX-4945 4-78, Propellent Explosives (Solid) Class B. The pour spout and cap have been sealed using sheet plastic as an added seal and the keg had been stored in in a metal cabinet in an occupied house so I know it had been kept cool and dry. I opened the keg and smelled the powder and could not detect any unusual or irritating odors. The powder grains are all uniform in color(dull gun metal gray) and shape(tiny round flakes) and appear in good condition. Does anyone have an idea as to how old this stuff is and by my description if it might still be in usable condition? Are there any other ways, besides smell and appearance to tell if a powder is still usable? I don't want to risk using this stuff if its not safe and if it is not safe to use how do I go about disposing of such a large quantity? Any help, advise or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
