Well on Thursday i went to work with what i thought was the stomach flu and turned out to be my appendix getting ready to rupture. my boss sent me up to medical and the doctor gave me the news. from their i was transported to emergency and with in 1 hour i was on the cutting table.

the worse of it all was that last Tuesday i picked up my new hunting boat and was planing building a blind on it over the weekend. well i guess it has to wait.

has anyone had this done to them and how long were you off work. i haven't seen my surgeon to find out. my first appointment is on Thursday

anyway you all take care

When I built a blind for a boat I took 3 days off work. Nice you have a surgeon that knows about building blinds. I guess at the appointment he'll give you some plans and a materials list for the blind. I'd ask for a scissors blind. Hopefully the appendix cover story works out for you. Seems like you are going to some great lengths for this new boat and blind.

seriously glad you are doing well.

I was sore for a few weeks. No lifting for a while though---kind of like a hernia in that the abs were cut open and takes time to heal.

Worst for me? 2 days after and they were weaning me off the pain meds and watching a "Its a Mad, Mad, Mad World" back in '68 and laughing--damn did that hurt every thing I laughed.

Had it done when I was 25 and I'm 47 now so it was a while ago. Any way I beleive I was off work for 8 weeks as they said there was no way that I could do mechanical work until then but the surgon said no lifting for at least 4 weeks and he made me stay in the hospital for 10 days because he knew me and figured that I would be out cutting fire wood or something.

Kulsh, it all depends on if it was an "open" appendectomy or a laparoscopic appendectomy. Do you have one big scar or five little stab wounds? If it was laparoscopic surgery, you will have a much faster turnaround. Like one week instead of 4-6 weeks. Either way, I would say that this weekend is probably out for the physical exercise and heavy lifting. Hope you're feeling better, I'm glad they caught it in time! Ruptured appendix = no fun!

glad to hear you're ok, kulsh. just remember, TAKE IT EASY! if you don't and something happens, you will just prolong things even more.
