i lived in Minnsota for 15 years from 1980 to 1995 and i miss it,i miss the hockey, the Vikings and the Twins, i have two boys know and would realy like for them to go to good schools and have them in the outdoors as i was hunting and fishing, my question is how has the duck hunting been and all i know the turkey's have exploded, back in the day the duck hunting was awsome, i lived in the SE hunted the Weaver bottoms and half moon and all areas around, I work for Honeywell and could transfer if i wanted to, might be around the city's or rochester, any help would be great

Thanks Lenny

Filter,
I grew up in Rochester and lived there for 18 years until I moved off to college. There is so GREAT duck and goose hunting down there. The goose hunting is AMAZING due to the fact that Silver Lake is there which stays open from the powerplant all winter. I want to say that last winter the city was reporting around 100,000 geese in and around the area at any given time. So that is a plus if you like field hunting. Olmsted County is really lacking for natural lakes, but there are rivers that flow through it...These have been known to hold ducks around. Anyways, hope that helps. As for schools, I am a teacher and would LOVE to get into the 535 (rochester) district, as it is one of the best in the state. Also a town called St. Charles which is not far from there ROCKS as well. Good luck with the move.

Considering duck numbers were at a low point back then and a 3 a day 30 day season, yes hunting is at least = to that now. But I would think that there is more hunting pressure too now days. I do not hunt SE MN, so really can not say, but in general, a lot more waterfowl hunters in the last 10-12 IMO in MN. But their #s are skipping according to DNR. Like below 90K now in MN, it was 110K 5 years ago.

What ever that you decide, good luck and hope it works out.
