Group,

In a little more than a month we here in S. Maine are going to be swamped with TICKS! Last September when I got my pup I used Frontline but still found around 10-12 ticks on her before things froze up in early December and killed the critters. The ticks on all instances, were attached and had been feeding for at least enough time to get rasin size!

Other than keep her inside what can be done to cut down on TICKS! Other meds? Comb her out every day?

Thanks,

Duck Mann

we have ticks real bad here in SC also. i use frontline too and it does a pretty good job, if applied correctly though. you shouldn't find any ticks "swelling" from feeding. it should kill them shortly after they attach. if not, you may have another issue there (application, etc.) between that and shampooing once a week with a quality dog shampoo that contains some type of surface tick/flea prevention and you should cut them down to a minimum. hth!

They are get pretty bad here in Central Maine also. I've used Frontline, but I seem to get better results from Advantix. It also doesn't stay greasy on his back for as long. That's an added benefit for me as my dog has just one coat of very short hair. Then again, his coat length means I can usually spot them before they have time to attach...

I get it from the vet. Hard to trust the quality of products from any where else...

royst,

i have heard this idea before and that it works well. the only problem is with kids or pets that are outside with any regularity, there could be some serious health issues from what i understand.
