Had a nutrition specialist come and talk to our class last weekend. Turns out one of our professors used to hunt with him and told us an interesting story.

They speaker used to have a lab he did everything with. The dog gave him 13years of companionship. The dog got to the point to where he couldn't go anymore without being in tremendous pain.

After making the decision to put him down, the nutrionist and his dog went out for one last pheasant hunt and wound up killing two roosters. At the end of the day the guys wife and family met the two on top of the hill overlooking the fields and had the vet meet them to put his buddy down.

They took the dog and his last birds home and had them cremated together...

touching story I thought

I hunt with a guy who takes his deceased dog to the field with him at least once every year.

He had a wooden decoy made that is hollow inside - he placed the ashes inside and places it in his spread at least once a year!

Nice storie...and taking him to the field once a year is one of the nicest tributes I have heard of being paid to a deceased buddy. I think every dog deserves something similar...After all, for the 10 plus years of friendship and loyalty he/she gives, that seems like the least I could do.
