I just got a 5 month old lab and I was wondering, is it too late to train it?

i would say no labs are smart dogs although it would ahve been best i am sure it will still beable to pick up... but that is just my opianin and i am not an expert by any means

there are a few guys on here that sound like they are good trainers and i am sure they will be able to help you more

No, it isn't too late at all. Actually, just about the right age. Just start with OB and play at the retrieving. Stress OB, nothing but OB, because that is what should have been done prior to this point. Throw bumpers every day but not as training, just as fun, perhaps a reward for good OB work. If you get on the OB hard and heavy then you can bring the dog back in line with a normal schedule in no time.

steves right, Ob is huge in dogs. I would much rather hunt with an average retriever with great ob skills than a blockhead that is good at retrieving.

(I own the stubburn blockhead, but he also listens!)

Mike...

Like father like son?

Steve,

Yes, I too am a blockhead.

:toofunny:
But do you LISTEN???

:salude:
Hey it doesnt matter if I LISTEN, my dog listens, that is all that counts. Maybe my fiance doesnt have me ob trained very well?

Man, I'm glad we're not having this exchange on the NEUTERING thread!!!!!!

Your dog isn't too old to train.
