I’ve just found this site because of a new friend recently connected with. I’m excited to see what others hunters around the country have been experiencing the past few years. South Louisiana has not been very productive.

It is that way in the south it seems, I have not seen the numbers in the last 10 years for sure. Welcome to DHC!!

Like it or not its because habitat has improved for ducks north of Louisiana. Ducks don't have to leave Canada and make a beeline for Louisiana.

That makes for a slower migration...and a better overall duck population...but you are going to have to work a bit harder for your birds.

It's gotten a lot worse in Ohio in the last ten years too. I've hunted in years past (60 plus) in duck rich areas that even supported guide services. A lot of the habitat is the same or better, BUT 90% of the ducks are gone. The only bright spots are Woodies and Geese. Bottom line, they sure aren't lingering in Ohio. I think it's time for a return to a four bird 45 day season.

I don't think a four duck limit will change as much as you think. 6 ducks a day does nothing statistically relevant to duck numbers. Habitat and recruitment (ducklings surving) is what really matters.

We aren't taking about market hunters with punt guns here.

There is something else happening in your area.
