I am new to using a single reed duck call and it seems to me the call I have is a little to raspy for my taste, is it something I am doing or is there a way I can tune it so it is a little less raspy. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

What kind of call is it? Some call's are intended to be that way, i.e. a Rnt Daisy Cutter is suppose to be a nasty raspy call. When the reed is long, the call will be slightly harder to blow and have a little more rasp. If you trim the reed just a tad, like less than a 1/64th of a inch, it will make the call a slight higher pitch and make it a little easier to blow. But be carefull, trim just a hair at a time and blow a little hunting routine untill you find what your looking for.

Best thing to do is give Ol Ricko a call and ask him. If he will send you reeds you can fix this issue like stated above. I would ask how dog eared is the reed? If it is really dog eared this will give you a more raspy sound. A simple cork change can do wonders not the normal culprit but might as well get a fresh reed/cork set up to find the sound your after. Worse case send it in and have the call maker tune it to your liking.
