I've been shooting a Winchester Super X2 for a while now and was thinking of buying another shotgun. The two I have in mind are the Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 and the Beretta Xtrema 2. Both are excellent duck hunting autos. What would be your first choice and WHY??? Oh yeah, don't think I want you to limit your choices to the two I had in mind. I would be interested in your opinion regardless, if you have valid points, of course.

Well if those are your choices, you're going to be just fine. I've shot both, and as far as I can tell, they are both top notch autoloaders. If you go to the shotgun forum, they'll swear back and forth about which one is best. My best advice: Contact American shooting centers on Westiemer. They have all sorts of autoloaders, and you can shoot one at their range for a small fee. See which one suits you best and then "pull the trigger".

Do you want gas operated (Beretta) or inertial recoil operated (Benelli)?? I have a Benelli SBE (the first one) and love it. Very little maintainance needed unlike gas operated. If you are not set on those two firearms, I would take a look at the new red label.

I've had the SBE2 the last year and love it. It preforms great on the boat and bind. It does however jam 2-3/4 rounds on me when shooting clay birds. I think because it is an inertia system and relies on a solid surface to cycle (im a smaller guy). My friends doesn't jam when he's target shooting (hes a bigger guy). Regardless, i still wouldn't trade it in, I like the way it shoulders and shoots (ive killed many birds with it). Its breaks down easy for cleaning and . Have you looked at the new browning maxus? It looks like it has potential. Good luck

My brother and I both shoot the Xtrema 2 and we love them. Super dependable and have never had any issues with them. Occasionally there is an issue with bad shells or crimps, but completely unrelated to the gun. Just make sure if you go with the Beretta, break it in properly and it will cycle ANYTHING you put in it. I have shot the Benelli and it just doesn't feel right on the upswing for me, however, I am looking for an M2 or SBE for my girlfriend because it works for her. BOTH brands are excellent choices and you will not go wrong either way. You might consider looking at the SX3, I've heard really good things about them.

i own a SBE2. i think its a little bit lighter than the Xtrema2 and it really is extremly easy to break down. i got mine with a 28inch barrel and it fits me perfectly. the Xtrema2 is a little bit bulkier too but isnt by any means heavy or difficult to carry or swing. just go to cabelas or somewhere and try mounting each one, then you will know for sure

My 13 year old and I went to Gander Mountain to shoot our bows tonight and I just had to stop by and try both shotguns. The Beretta seemed a little wider down the backbone and harder to mount that the Benelli so I guess I'm leaning towards the Benelli. I know exactly where American Shooting Center is out in Bush Park on Old Westheimer so I would like to actually shoot them both before I make the commitment. I wasn't aware that you could shoot their guns. I will check that option out soon. I love to shoot benchrest style and I can be found there quite often. Thanks, for the input.

Shoot a Beretta Gold Sporting 391 for sporting clays, love it and use the SBEII for everything else. Hate the Xtrema for the duck hunting that i do. I have shot both and the beretta is just more bulky and not as easy to maneuver in a layout blind. People talk about how bad the SBEII kicks but, I really dont feel it. Im 6' 185 and listening to people that are 250 plus saying it kicks like a mule raises alot of questions....maybe im missing something?

I do want a 3 1/2 so that limits my choices some. I guess anything hurts if your shooting 3 1/2 BBB's one right after the other. For ducks I usually shoot 3 inch magnum #3 shot if I can find it. I'm going to try both before I lay down $1500 - 1600 for a gun though. My Winchester only cost $600 something when I bought it brand new and it has a lot of experience, if you know what I mean.

Have you been able to decide between the two guns yet? Can't go wrong either way but I prefer the SBEII, I don't personally own one yet but have shot it few times before and it feels so much better and swings better. Not as bulky either.

sbe2 for sure my friend sunk his boat in port"o" this year and someone found his gun a week later floating in the bay in its case and returned it to the sheriffs department,it had no rust on it and worked perfectly any gun that has been subjected to that enviroment for better than a week and comes up going bang has my vote.

You guys are way too "modern" for me.....I shoot a 12 GA Remington Model 10 (1908) 99% of the time and a 12GA Winchester Model 12 (1914) on occasion. The Remington has been 100% reliable, but the Winchester is worth a lot more. Both were handed down by my father. He said if I didn't use them, he'd take them back. Also passed down a second 12GA extended barrel and forearm with a variable choke for the Remington. Haven't used it yet.

FYI- The Benelli is a better fit and feel for me, but not by much.
