I'm not questioning anyone's bird ID skills, but on my first look I was thinking grebe based on the head shape and bill. The bill is very similar to mergansers. But zoom in on those feet. You should know what you're shooting at before you pull the trigger. I could be wrong on the grebe ID, but willing to lose a few bucks on it.

Most grebe have a chicken beak, long legs, and no tail. Its missing the tail and has long legs so could be. The white is why i figured hooded merg. Second from the left is a hen redbreasted merg. Call your local CO and ask him, if he writes you a ticket then its a grebe

Pied billed grebes have a short stout bill. Most others species have similar bills to mergansers.

Things Happen very fast with divers and getting a full id can be tough. The only one not allowed in my state I've never seen. As long as you eat your kill and stay in your limits the best you can that's fine by

Grebes are a non game species. The next time a hawk or eagle dives in on my dekes I will be sure to stay in my limits and eat them. :lol3: :lol3:
