Mud Motors are made for shallow waters with lots of weeds, mud, stumps, rocks, submerged logs and other obstacles. Compared to another motor, they are designed to really take a beating plain and simple. They are able to be tilted by the driver in transit, and have a wide range of motion. Basically a mud motor turns a boat into an ATV where there is more water than land.

Hope that clears it up for ya C.B.

A big point of distinction is that these motors are air cooled, vs. the water-cooled nature of outboards. Outboards must be able to take in clean water for cooling, whereas a mud motor will run in mud and in extremely shallow conditions that would not normally allow cooling on a conventional outboard.

Mud Buddy makes at least model that is water cooled, but it is via radiator rather than water pump.
