Thanks. No, they are all one of a kind. Just use the foam to take up bulk and keep them very lightweight. You use a trowel or butter knife to smooth it on. The knife gives it a smooth yet pitted look, while painting it on gives it a rough texture.

Yes, similar to rock mix, but with the paper pulp, it seems like it represents a harder "rock-like" surface.

I finish them with a wet wash of watery acrylic to accent the crevasses, and if you want more color, I accent the high spots with a dry brush highlighter...again in acrylics. I made a ton of rocks with 5 pounds of Sallie Dahmes paper mache (McKenzie). It's the best there is. Museum grade. I made these rocks to accommodate ducks I already had mounted flat footed, so they are flat surfaced. In the future, I'll make the rocks and add the ducks. I learned a lot in 6 days of messing around. The next rocks should be leaps above these.

Tutorial? Hardly. This is way too easy. I had no real direction, and the sky is the limit. Each rock costs about 50 cents. I had the foam laying around however. Old manikins would make good rocks lol

Would regular homemade paper mache not work as well? What's unique about sallie's?

I'm sure the recipe is different. I've read plenty. I actually have a recipe, but I've heard a lot of good things about this. It really is rock hard, and doesn't chip easily. I wouldn't be against using a homemade recipe, except I don't pay shipping on McKenzie, so I'll spend a couple extra bucks on a product I know works well.

I'll post a recipe. Give me second

Work, and work...got shipped to Ireland for a while and that bit me for getting a comp bird done. I have one I'm trying to clean one up a little so I can at least bring something though. In the long run it's probably a good one to bring because it should result in getting feedback in a lot of my problem areas rather than bringing one that magically went together well without me knowing why.

I'll post that one after the show.
