in my 40 years of hunting, i have hunted pretty much everything you can in jersey, and a few other states, and it just seems so much more exciting to hunt waterfowl, especially open water for divers, there is nothing like having a group of broadies comming right at your face while in a layout boat, it's hard to explain why, but every one i have taken for the first time gets hooked big time. i still hunt some for deer and turkey, but that is more because my 14 yr old wants to, although last year for opening day of deer,( mom usually lets him take that day off from school) he asked if we could go to the bay for ducks instead, thats my boy!!!!
So....the only solution is to give in to the temptation....you cant fight nature

It is like riding your first motorcycle, you just never get it out of your system. Starting duck hunting about 10 years ago, shot trap/skeet for 6 years prior & I had no interest in hunting period.
A friend of mine took me out once and that was it, now everthing that flys I size up on where I would shoot it. I have almost driven my truck/car off the road looking at geese/ducks flying. I was out last night walking one of my dogs and the geese and ducks flying around were just awesome. I live near a corn field with a pond close by and drives me wild watching the waterfowl, my blood boils.
I do not know if there is any therapy for people like us, I tell my wife I could be hanging out at the strippers & drinking.

Get married, add a couple kids running around the house...that should put a knot in your spending habits

I think that part of it is that you are able to shoot so much. It's not like deer or elk hunting where you may get one shot a year if you are lucky, though I still enjoy hunting those too. I even carry buckshot with me while I am duck hunting in case I see a buck while I am duck hunting since are seasons run concurrently.

That's illegal bro. No lead waterfowl hunting. I got married and had kids that didn't stop me. I told my old lady from the get go. I hunt. I hunt a lot. It gets expensive. Deal with it. If you want me cooped up in the house with you all winter, I'm not the guy for you. We have a great marriage. I now catch myself looking at new APG camo pattern jackets. like that Max4 and shadow grass jackets I just got are bad. When you start buying duplicates you've got issues. I've got lots of duplicates.

I am married and have 2 kids. You will find a way to get the stuff you need (want). I started about 6 years ago and I have to say it is the most addictive thing I have ever done. I eat sleep and breath it. I had to give up most of my other hobbies (deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel and fishing) to appease my wife but she knows when duck season is in, I am hunting every chance I get.

I have come to grips with my addiction. My wife says that i need an intervention. But she hasnt known the rush, the exccitement of sitting in the freezing wind and rain watching that first fat mallard of the season come in from the stratisphere, cup his wings and fold after you put some#2 steel through his head. She hasnt been there on a blue bird day and get back doored by a flock of gw teal, when you have a split second to pull up and fire dropping the last bird in the flock. And she hasnt seen your best friend and hunting partner play clean up when you cripple a bird and he crushes him before the bird hits the water. She hasnt seen your dog do a long retrieve swimming back to you with that bull sprig that was your limit bird. These are the things that we live. Its not just what we do. Its who we are!!! When some one asks me what i do, i have to stop and think. Because the first thing that pops into my mind is "I hunt water fowel".. This is my passion. 2nd only to my wife and children. A real close second,

If you want to spend less on duck hunting take up drugs and hookers.
You'll probably still want to duck hunt though. :hammer:

It's hard to explain, the mixture of comradery, the anticipation of day break, the sound of the waves and the smell of outboard exhaust. I have hunted entire days without firing a shot while I was guiding people, and just to be part of their good time was great, so I don't think it's always the shooting. But to be the guy that anticipated the movement of 200-300 broadbills is a great feeling.
