Hard to fault someone wanting to buy a call for listing it on both forums in order to reach those who may not be actively looking to sell one but are willing to, as those actively looking to sell would already have it in the classifieds.

Probably going to be hard to find a used burnt hedge SB looking anywhere near as "two-tone" as the new one pictured. When I saw your request, I thought (very briefly) about letting mine go, but it's so darkened with age I dug it out just to reassure myself it is, in fact, burnt and not just hedge:

That's a different call's insert in my SB's barrel, but the photo illustrates the point. Forgive me if it's something you're already well aware of, but the "two-tone," rather than "burnt hedge," wording presented the possibility you weren't.

My store bought engraved version actually looks remarkably similar to the pic of the one posted, and it has been hunted (probably my favorite sounding call I own). I also have had a few that are much closer to your's, but still nothing quite as dark. Heck, even my old stickered hedge ones aren't that dark (at least the 2 that I kept) but I figure that's mostly because they don't often see the sun (i.e. they are on the shelf currently). That will be changing this coming year though with the nicked up version, as it just sounds too darn good to not hunt it. I've yet to find a call that I find to be as naturally "ducky" as a hedge RNT short barrel. As for you Rick checking to make sure your's is in fact "burnt" and not just hedge, I've got one of those too, again nowhwere near as dark as yours. I love my hedge SB's!

To the OP, there is always the option of finding a source for hedge and sending it in to RNT (as I'm sure they'd be happy to spin one up for you). If you decide to go that route I will tell you first that you're going to need a 2"x2"x10" piece for a complete call.

I thought we weren't supposed to advertise anywhere but the classifieds. If I'm wrong about that my apologies to the op. This has been talked about several times on here. Not too long ago you could find them in stock. I bought one looking very similar to the picture from Rogers sporting goods in January. You can find them pretty often on eBay. The last time someone was looking there were two active auctions going.

Does anyone know what this would cost?
I emailed RNT after seeing the bois d'arc gone from selection and the reply was they won't stock it anymore. I've thought about sending them wood but figured it may cost a lot more all together. Would they charge just labor, for making one with wood supplied? ??

I just emailed them the exact question, I will post their response here when they get back to me.

I've had quite a few calls made by Rnt. They do a good job of trying to a quality call out of the wood that you send them. I'm like Byers they're currently working on a sb in black wood for me. Another thing to keep in mind here when sending them wood to work is making sure its good quality wood. They don't guarantee anything with the wood you send them until it's finished. It's hard to come across good quality bois (hedge) wood. Usually they charge the normal price of the call as if it was new. Hope this sheds some light on it. There's some people out there that you can find quality hedge from but it will take some searching. The best hedge usually comes from old fence post in the mid west and some times you can run across it on eBay. It takes a 2x2x10 blank to complete a barrel and insert or a 2x2x5 to make a barrel or insert. Good luck in your search a burnt hedge sb is getting like the "old school" daisy cutters to find. And since quality hedge wood is getting harder to find the price is going up on them too. I have a couple hedge sb's that I use.

This is what your looking for, keep in mind there's a lot of color variations in hedge also.

fowled, not to start anything here but "good quality" hedge wood is not getting harder to find. Some forms of high quality hedge wood is going for premium prices (like green hedge) but for the most part it is readily available. RNT is just wanting to find a supplier big enough to take on the amount they would need to run them consistently. Also, hedge short barrels are not even close to being as rare as old school DC's (and there is by most accounts a good amount of them floating around). Heck, in the last year I've dumped 2 hedge SB's (both older stickered models) and currently own 5. They're out there, you just need to find someone who is willing to deal one away.
As for the price of the call if you send them the wood......I am 99% certain they still charge the full price of the call. I had planned on having some made up out of a chunck of hedge I have, but unfortunately it wasn't big enough and I decided I didn't need the call bad enough to warrant purchasing another piece.

Jrode, I know your not on here to get anything started. I was actually hoping you would weigh in on this thread. Your collection and knowledge of RNT's is next to none. I've always valued and respected your opinion in these Rnt call threads. I wasn't trying to imply that the hedge sb's are as hard to find as the os daisys just that some people know that Rnt has quit making them for the moment until a main supplier is found, and that some have decided to try and drive the price up on them as the dc's have had done. I'm not from the Midwest i live in the south, tn to be exact and quality hedge is pretty fun to try to get hands on here. Heck for that matter most of the wood I order to have calls made come from the Midwest or from your area around Wisconsin and Michigan areas. I also agree that by no means are they nonexistent they're out there just got to stay on top of it because they go quick when they are for sale. Thanks jrode hope one day that my
Collection of RNT's is as big and nice as yours

Fowled, thank you for the kind words, although I am by no means an expert, especially on RNT's.......I just own(ed) my fair share of them to have gotten a reasonably good feel for the lineup, minus the Diablo and Timber Hawg. Needless to say, they are on my short list of calls to pick up this year. As for the entire RNT lineup my favorite is the Short barrel, which is why I own the number I do. Also, IMO the RNT lineup for duck calls is about as complete of one (i.e. they cover the entire spectrum for any type of hen mallard call any person should need) as I've found, and IMHO is the best sounding group out there. Regarding the collection........here is the thread from CDC. http://forums.callingducks.com/showthread.php?t=12807
I've added a few since then and have unfortunately had to get rid of a few since then. And believe me when I tell you, there are guys out there with collections (both in terms of number and actual call rarity) that make mine look tame.

That's a pretty awesome collection! I noticed you had quite a few of the RNT goose calls. Right now I have a Gander Valley Powerhouse and like it but am pretty intrigued by the g3. What's your review on it? Do you like it more than the past models?

G3 is a nice call. Has good control, good volume, decent speed, and is relatively user friendly. The majority of the goose calls pictured there are RNT's first goose calls, the Kelley Power's edition. There are a lot of guys that think they are best goose calls RNT has offered thus far and I'd probably agree. It is basically a maximum bored out version of the G2. Lot of the same characteristics as the G3 but a bit tougher to handle and has a much sharper lip rest on the barrel.
