Damn, damn, damn.......
I just pulled into the store after a 15 mile ride and when I went to turn the truck off, an icon of a wrench popped up and said "check 4x4"....
This is a '13 F150

So I look down and the knob for 4x4 is in the 4x4H position....I have no idea how that happened. I am crazy on top of things with my truck, so it wasn't me....it could have been my wife somehow hitting it with her wrist or something, I don't know...
I switched it to 4x2 and turned the truck off, went shopping, came out and tried to put it into 4x4 just to see, the wrench icon again.

So-
if in fact the 4x4h was engaged and I drove dry pavement to town, what could that have done?
I can tell you that usually when I put the truck into 4x4 know it. I feel and even hear the difference.....today, the truck drove completely normal...but now I can't get it INTO 4x4...

Thoughts?

Have you tried to put it into 4WD while the transmission is in Neutral? if not check fuses and then maybe on to actuators. I know some 4x4 actuators are prone to trouble on some GM trucks. Reading around on a few other forums looks like its common with the F150's as well, also might be a half shaft engagement vacuum motor.

Just go by your favorite mechanic shop and have them scan it real quick. Save a lot of time and heart ache by doing that.

That's a good idea, my concern is that I cooked something by driving on regular road at highway speed, engaged.
I still have no idea how it happened, you'd think that there'd be a chime or light or something if it was that a danger.
How would driving it turn out to be a fuse issue?
I'll look

Isn't there a light in the dash that tells you its in 4x4. Just go trade it in on a Tundra.

It's a tiny little light that looks about as this> 4x4 and then goes off, once it's engaged....

Are you ready for this??
Remember the dead duck project with the corn in my truck that resulted in the mouses nest, they had to pull the entire harness out to snake in a new one?
Well what do you think they (admittedly) forgot to plug back in ?
Yup, the 4x4 module......
