I'm looking for some info on the club as they're advertising for members. It's not cheap so I'd like to ask a current or recent past member what their experiences were there. I'm familiar with the area and some of the blind locations don't impress me much. A lot of outfits like this screw the new guys in order to subsidize the older members fun . Curious if it's one of those deals or a fair opportunity to have fun.

the "hope" of moving into a better blind is what keeps people at a club...if the new guy got to move in ahead of someone who had been there for a while, the manager would lose everybody. Nobody is screwing you, you're just the rookie, is all. Maybe you need to look for a club with a daily rotation of blinds. Or find a club that's not shooting this year because of no water...might be surprised what you can find...

I understand what you're saying and actually could have hunted the BCHC when I was a member of the Richmond Hunting Club when it was part of that clubs properties over 40 years ago. I left the RHC for the reason that it was a cliquish group of old members who had their fun subsidized by new members that they neither welcomed or helped.
The reason why I asked about how they treat the new member is that there is a blind draw that occurs in June for the BCHC. If all blinds are up for the draw it's much different than if only the poor blinds they can't sell is what is offered. It's $1,850 a year per hole and I'm going to be 72 next year so I'm running out of time to hang around waiting for my choice to improve. I also have no inclination to throw that much money away just to look at birds fly by other peoples blinds when I can go to the Howard Slough check station parking lot and do the same thing for free. I don't mind being the new guy and enjoy making new friends but I don't want to waste money if it's stacked against me and only 10 out of the maybe 75 blinds shoot anything but the occasional Goldeneye.
Finding a good club that's not shooting this year but will be next year would be deluxe but I'm neither that lucky nor connected.

I get what you are saying Calimari...there are clubs out there that rotate the blinds on the property so everybody gets a fair shot at the good shooters each season...and there are several properties near Howard that have been duck clubs in the past...not shooting this year due to no water...but if we get the predicted storms will be back in business(and looking for all new members)...do a little drive around and see what you can scope out. Call Merlo, Boyle in Chico, Stacy Argo in Durham, Fishdog...talk to the guys at Kittles...now is the time, once the rain comes, those managers will be on the phone to old contacts who will get the first pick...get on the list now, and you will...good luck

I was an original member of BCHC their first year. It was formed by a bunch of us who were RHC members and broke away from RHC to form BCHC. BCHC took a lot of Richmonds land leases/blinds with us to start the new club. I was a member for a few years but left because I found other hunting opportunities. BCHC was and is a good club. Like most clubs they have good shooting blinds and not as good shooting blinds. As far as I know the drawing is for new members and members who want a different blind. The price you quote is average for rice blinds. A single seat in a rice blind generally go for about $1700 to $2000+. If you find cheaper blinds beware. Bottom line as far as I know BCHC is a good and fair club.
RHC is today a far different club than when it was a good old boys club. From friends I am told it's a good club with a lot of benefits. You can get a water blind there and you can set up a separate permanent field blind almost any where you want. You can use your water blind or field blind any time you want or you can use other people's field blinds when they are not there.
I was hunting around Williams today and after my hunt drove around the back roads just checking it all out. I saw a huge number of properties with RHC signs. Looks like they have a lot of property around Williams/Colusa area. You may want to check out RHC.

Thanks for the names. That will give me an option that I wouldn't have w/o your help.

Thanks, CS. This is just the kind of info I'm looking for.
I forgot about RHC having water blinds near Colusa. I live in Auburn so having a slightly closer option would be better than having to drive all the way to Williams.
A friend and three partners have a tank near the Sutter Bypass that just had a price increase to $1,350/hole. There are other blinds in the Robbins area for similar prices but the drought has impacted the number of fields flooded for ducks with a reduction in the number of ducks in the area. I'm still struggling with paying that much money when I don't need that many ducks to eat anymore. My friends have shot 200 ducks and 8 geese from their tank as of Christmas and he's invited me to hunt it twice with limits or the potential both times.
Maybe I should just buy him the occasional hooker and get him to invite me to his blind?
