I have had some inquiries on how I keep dogs warm and happy in the winter out here.

Here is what we do up here in NE Montana. We have 10 kennels for our outside labs.

I installed the dog house heaters first.

Then I install the dog doors

Then to keep the water buckets ice free.

Power is run to the rear of the kennels for the dog house heater and bucket heater.

Then a bed of straw in the houses, Winter here is no joke last year temps down to - 36 and that is not wind chill
Our houses stay at 50-70 degrees all winter and the buckets never ice up.

I use hound heaters in my houses as well. Only thing I do different is use prairie hay instead of straw. Straw flattens out quickly and pushes to the side. Prairie hay intertwines with itself allowing a dog to nest down in it. I change mine out once a week. With the heaters my houses stay toasty. Mostly english pointers just two labs.
