Dog vest modification

I know there are topics already on this but I am wondering if anyone has a video explaining the process. My 2.5yr old lab needs a 3xl neoprene vest to fit his chest but his neck and belly have major gaps between the vest and skin. I need to cut room in the armpit area as well. I have read you cut skinny triangles out and use neoprene cement to make the sems hold. Just wondering if it really is that easy or if there are videos showing how it is done.
Thanks

I don't have a video, but it really is that easy. Start with small cuts because it's easier to take more out than glue it back. The neoprene cement will have instructions that basically says you put it on both sides of the cut, then wait until it gets tacky, then you push the edges together.

Does neoprene cement dry smooth and flexible or is it crispy so it will irritate skin if rubbed on. Also do I have to put something where I cut it out larger for his legs and where I cut a groove for his package underneath to prevent it from tearing or wearing quicker. I ordered my neoprene cement tonight and plan on working on it next week.
Thanks

Yes it is that easy. Where it's too big, pinch the big part as to where it would fit, this will leave you with a crease. Mark the end of the crease and the spot where either side of big part touch. Cut that out in a long triangle fashion. As was said you put the cement on each side and wait the prescribed amount of time then push them together and hold for a few seconds. After I did that much on mine and got it how I wanted it I went back and stitched the sides together then covered those with cement as well. I'm not sure if that's a must but I didn't want it to separate at some point. The cement shouldn't be scratchy and no you don't need anything where you just trimmed it unless you crossed some stitching.

I cut my dogs vest to fit him in the armpits before I made other modifications. The vest is way too big in his neck area. It is an Avery Boat Parka and has the band that runs inside the vest that the leash rings are attached too. In order to make it small enough to fit right I will have to cut through that material that is like a collar that is sewed inside. I'm assuming cutting through that material will make that a weak point and I won't be able to use it to leash my dog. Are there any other issues that I will create by cutting through that area. I got my neoprene cement yesterday and will make the modifications this weekend after hearing a few responses.
Thanks

Unless your dog is normally out of control and pulling like all get out on lead, it shouldn't make a lick of difference. And if your dog is normally out of control and pulling like all get out on lead, you'd have much better luck keeping a handle on him with the lead attached to a neck pinch collar anyway.
