I was leaning toward a the yeti cause that's what my buddies have so I know what they can do. But I see the engel gets good reviews as well. What do you guys think? I like the yetis sizes better but the price of the engel. I'm willing to pay more for a better one and one that I will be pleased with.

IMHO they all about the same, it is whether or not you want to pay for the name. They are all nice but too much of a price tag for me!!

Neither, from my testing my Coleman Marine Extreme held ice just as long as the Yeti at a fraction of the cost. I bet your gonna put PBR in that $500 ice chest.

Buy a coleman and use the remaining $400 for new decoys.

When buying a cooler like this, you are really just paying for the durability and not having to replace a cheaper one. They all hold ice well and the average buyer doesn't need to hold ice for a week. I suggest you buy based one what handles, latches, hinge, etc that you prefer. FWIW, I got a yeti before the market was flooded with competitors and I am still happy with it.

Agreed, but hinges are a simple fix, there's been multiple threads on here about that over the years.

These guys just won't give it a rest on the coolers. The last thread got so bad they deleted it. The reality is the new style of premium coolers have a lot of advantages over the Walmart specials. If you can't afford one, or don't choose to spend your cash that way, then don't. If you are happy with your Igloo or Coleman, more power to you. I've been through a small mountain of them. If you are tired of replacing busted up leaking coolers then any of the new top brands is a huge step up, and nice gear to have.

yeti. i'm on my second texas summer with mine. it stays in the back of my service truck and doesn't have an easy life. I keep bottled water in it and usually only have to put ice in it twice a week. had an igloo and had to put ice in it everyday. figured its paid for itself after a year.

Spend money foolishly? You're young and still have a world of learning ahead of you. Carry on.
Actually that's my son and future son in law. At 54 maybe not that young, and I feel like the Yeti is one of my best outdoor gear purchases in the past few years. By do what I want I was referring to standing on a cooler to bowfish, yet another unintended use of a hollow plastic box. We find it to be a versatile plastic box. Compared to the cost of whitewater river boats, I'm not too worried about the cost of a cooler........

I'm not paying 700 dollars for a cooler.... Ever..... Could I afford it? Sure. Do I have other stuff to buy. Yep. I use Coleman extremes and have had one for about 4 years still going strong. I'm also not pissed if it breaks, leaks, flys out of the trailer, buddy runsover it. You name it. They are good coolers, that's for sure.

Well OK that is different. I was losing sleep thinking some punk kid, who was probably making minimum wage, bought a grossly over priced cooler to impress his friends.

Also check out Pelicans coolers! They are similar to Yeti, but have better latches and are priced a little more reasonably. Out of the two I think I would take the Engel though.

Several friends have Yetis and another just bought a Pelican (after critiquing actual capacity per dollar) and they all ask when I'm buying a "super cooler". My response is by using a 54qt Igloo Marine Ultra I have more capacity for beer & ice than their smaller Yeti and for the $250 price difference I can buy 1,200 pounds of ice (based upon $2.00/20# at Twice The Ice vending machines around here) so I am NOT delving into the status symbol that is Yeti, Engel, Pelican or other uber priced cooler. They are heavy as hell, for the size of the box you get minimal internal capacity and I don't camp or hike in BFE to have the need to keep things cold for 5 days.

I hear ya. And a lot less people are likely to want to steal it.
