Which do you prefer? Which one is the 'correct' one and why?

You really shouldn't use toothpicks. A lot of us have food traps, you eat and food gets caught between your teeth. Is annoying and uncomfortable. Floss is the best way to remove any food particles caught. Toothpicks are useful for removing stuck debris, but they are a lever. They can create a larger food trap. You don't want to be prying around in there. If you had to use a toothpick, I'd say use the thinnest you can.

As Rick points out, toothpicks are for more than just picking food between teeth, but I agree with your assessment.

I agree toothpicks are for cooking... Otherwise

Those things are great, but my wife tends to leave her used ones laying all around the house. Gross!
That's how women mark their territory.....toothpicks and bobby pins.

If you take that lighter and light the other end, it'll burn all the way to the edge of the glass and the fork and spoon will still stand up.
I know, that's why I had it there, but Grandaughter came into room and didn't want her to see how Pa Pa makes fire :fingerpt: :fingerpt: :fingerpt:

I use round ones for cooking, and flat ones for filling a wood screw hole (also use some elmers) so the screw will get a tight grip (again).

Most people think flossing and or " toothpicking" is to remove food debris from in between your teeth. Well, that doesn't do squat for maintaining overall oral health. Plaque or otherwise known as bacteria, adheres to your tooth surface. Bacteria feeds on food that you eat. Just like everyone here, we produce gas. HNTFSH, produces more hot air than most  . His is noxious. Bacteria produces endotoxins, your immune system reacts to these endotoxins. The inflammation from the immune response is called gingivitis. Gingivitis is 100% reversible. If the bacteria hangs around long enough it creates a colony, that colony creates gram negative bacteria and your body cannot get rid of it. So, essentially your gums or gingiva begins to pull away from these toxins and bone resorption begins. This is the beginning stage of periodontitis. Some of you who have been around this earth longer than a half century probably recognize this being called " long in the tooth"....Anyhow, flossing is the way to go. Make sure the floss wraps around the tooth surface as you gently slide the floss up and down. Next lesson we will talk about furcations and tooth brush abrasion.

If you're talking about my farts, they are indeed somewhat room-clearing.

BTW - "toothpicking" for most people is to clean the piece of lettuce from between their teeth after lunch before giving a presentation to a room of people. You're still weird.
