ok, i want to make sure i the laws so i can hunt all my life. there is one law i am confused on. i was told at by a good friend of mines dad, hes hunted pretty much all of his life, told me that there is a set minimum number of decoys you HAVE to have. and that is a dozen. now this kid at school, hunted for maybe 9 years, told me that you could really just set one decoy out if you wanted to. the law about having to have a dozen decoys is only for "state ground".

thanks for the responses ahead

I LIVE IN MICHIGAN NEWS TO ME.I HAVE HUNT FOR 57 YEARS THATS A FIRST BUT MAY BE SOME STATES. BUT I DON;T NOW WHY . JUST SOME THING MORE TO DEAL WITH .SO IF YOU ONLY HAVE 11 GOOSE DECOYS YOU JUST HAVE TO STAY HOME :hammer:  THAT SUCKS MAY BE MOVE TO MICHIGAN

Like goosehunter64 said it only applies to state lands and not private land. I hunt early goose with between 5 and 12 decoys.

This total includes duck decoys, so if it's duck season a dozen total is nothing. If it's just goose season, then a dozen floaters is a decent number of decoys. I'm pretty sure butts would count and they are pretty cheap and if it's on land shells and silouettes are fairly cheap.

However, yes if you only have 11 decoys, you are technically breaking the law on a lot of the state run properties in Illinois.

If you are hunting on managed waterfowl areas in any state, I would always check to make sure what the special rules for that property are because a lot of them have shell limits, decoy limits, and other rules like the 12 decoy rule that don't apply statewide. I'd bet there are even special rules on the Michigan managed hunting areas.
