Last night, on my way home, I'm easing through the neighborhood, when this guy slams into the side of my jeep. Initially, I thought it was one of the neighbor's dogs that like to chase cars. As soon as I put it into reverse, I could see him flopping around in the middle of the road. I was pretty shocked to see him stand up and kind of wobble around like he was drunk. About that time, the infamous car chasers were all coming out to see what was up. I had to act fast and get him up off the road before the dogs made it out to the street. I grabbed an old towel from the jeep and scooped him up. I was only a couple hundred yards from my house, so I just set him on the back of the jeep, bundled in the towel.

He was still in a daze when I got him to my house, so handling him was easy. I set him up on an old stump, hoping he'd gain some composure and fly away on his own. After about fifteen minutes, he opened his eyes and started looking around. He seemed to be pretty alert and aware of his surroundings, but he wasn't making any attempt to fly away. He was obviously still a little shook up. I set him up on a branch about 9' up a dogwood and hoped for the best.

This morning, I was surprised and relieved to see he had made it through the night and flew away on his own. Oh...and no damage to the jeep whatsoever.

Cool....he looks a little punch drunk for sure.
I had an owl swoop down on me while hunting from a layout blind at the base of a shrub. He flew right over me and landed on the branch over my head (5')....and hung out there. I thought that was quite a compliment.....

Had a similar incident years ago only it was on a pretty big highway. He was staggering about on the center line of the road. Put him on the screened back porch with the door propped open. Took him until the next afternoon to fly off.

Thanks for sharing. I love owls, we have a stand of pines that owls tend to hang out in. When you're deer hunting, it's neat to sit there at dusk and hear them hooting. I think it's so cool how an owl can fly right over your head without making a sound.

I like owls, but not those screech owls. Man I hate those things.
Just out of curiosity, why do you hate screech owls in particular?
Cause hearing a noise like a woman screaming and screaching when I am trying to sleep is not appealing.
You're thinking of a Barn Owl, not a Screech Owl. Educate yoself son!

Well whatever the hell sounds like a woman being raped I don't care for that type of owl.

Your website does indeed make the barn owl sound like that damn critter I'd like to shoot dead and burn with gasoline. Only bird noise I hate more is the :censored: bald eagles that start screeching and skwaking at 4 am.
