Ill second what others have said...co custom. CNC'ed calls will never match a quality hand turned one. Ill catch some flak for that statement Im sure. My personal opinion is that Mr. David Gaston makes the finest calls on the planet. He learned from Mr. Taylor if that tells you anything. If I had to choose just one it would be an acrylic Field model. However, I also have a single reed timber call that that is super nasty, and all I have to do is breath into it and mallard feathers start coming out :). In all seriousness I feel these are the finest calls out there, and I have at least 1 of each model he makes, some more than one and they are all pure duck.

Yup........you sure will. I've yet to find any custom call makers lineup that even comes close to RNT and Echo in terms of overall sound quality. Not saying the customs aren't pretty or perhaps even more well made, but for straight up sound quality........I will take an RNT or Echo any day. Of course that is IMHO, if yours varies and you're happy with it, good for you.

I'm wit' him. Much as the notion of running custom duck calls hand crafted in a one man shop appeals to me, I've pretty much given up on them suiting me as well as some CNCed calls do. And, yes, I've tried two Gastons. I enjoyed my interactions with David, thought his calls well made and used them in the field virtually, if not, daily for a season before RNTs that functioned better for me replaced them. Different strokes...

Im not saying that they sound like trash. Id hate to stab a guess at the numbers of ducks that came in to RNT's hoping it was a hen with her pantees on the ground only to catch a face full of pellets. Maybe I should have phrased my statement differently. I have ran truly custom calls from a myriad of companies, and several truly were/are inferior to most RNT/Echo/Zink etc.. calls. I definitely think there is something cool about holding a hand made call, but if it sounds like poo then whats the point right?

However, IMHO Gaston's really do match the pitch, tone and cadence of a mallard hen better than anything else I have ran. I have owned several RNT's, Echo's and ran every call any of my buddies have and that's just my opinion. However, there have been many occasions when in the blind/pit that the birds respond better to my calling than someone else's and everyone I hunt with is very capable with a duck call.

To me it comes down to what I have had the most success with. On top of that I do enjoy hunting with something made by hand the way it used to be done. Just a piece of tradition I like to hold on to and pass down when I can. To the OP, I don't think he can go wrong with any of the calls mentioned here.

I wouldnt say probably, I'd say is...... J.J. Lares "Hybrid"

I've tryed every call from west, south and east...... You just cant beat the raspy hen built in to a call, I hunt every thing from open rice to pot hole marsh, and all ways come back to the Hybrid. Try a 1.375 reed
- but Heck, thats my opinion.

I'm gonna go with the Ducklander LT. Best sounding call I own. Also won't break the bank. Obviously this is a loaded question though as it really depends how you blow a call. Everyone is different so what works well for me may not work for you.

Any one call answer is simply laughable. Any one that can run a duck call proficiently knows that there are a ridiculous amount of calls that are capable and flat out run. I am willing to bet most of the folks with one call is the best answers more than likely can't even run that call let alone others.... I have favorite calls but know for a fact there are other calls that can and will get the job done the same.

then can we change the title to "whats your favorite duck call on the market"? or "which duck call do you prefer"? might ease some troubled minds. we all know [i hope] that in the right hands damn near all calls can get the job done. hope i didn't kill the thread i like seeing what people prefer it opens the avenues of new call makers

Personally, I prefer the "whats on your lanyard" threads. That way I can see what else they like to compare it to. For example, if someone posts RNT DC. All I know is I hate that call, so if they post a DC, and an Echo, its reasonable for me to assume I'll hate that Echo too. Right?

Why do people ask such dumb *** questions? Theres 1 million different calls for a billion differnt people. All your going to do is cause a stirr by asking these type of stupid questions. :hammer:

Maybe. A lot of guys' tastes are all over the board. And while I've tried to pattern the tastes of regular posters whose opinions I've come to respect to know which seem similar to mine and who may reference a call I'll want to audition, I can't say I've had a great deal of luck with it.
